2010 PET LICENCES AND BUSINESS LICENCES
Pet Licences are due by January 31ST, 2010
 Dogs and Cats three (3) months of age and older are required to be licenced.  
                                       
                Licence Fees:

                                                                  
                Cats and Dogs
  •    neutered or spayed                                    $10.00
  •    non-neutered or non-spayed                     $20.00
Be a Responsible Pet Owner:
1.   Do not allow your Dog or Cat to run at large.
                                                2.   Clean up after your dog, at all times, and your cat.
                                                3.   Do not allow your dog to create excessive noise.

BUSINESS LICENCES
                Contractors, door-to-door sales people and individuals who sell merchandise via home parties or by leaving merchandise at places of work, etc., are required to purchase a Town business licence.    
                Home based businesses must be approved by the Town and the licence fee depends on the business.


 Fire Fighting Fees 

*** Decision Reversed ****
The decision to charge property owners for fire calls has been reversed.   The Town of Shaunavon will not be proceeding with charging for fire call on January 1, 2010 as previously indicated.   
The Town of Shaunavon apologizes for any inconvenience that this may have caused.


LANDFILL SUMMER HOURS
In Effect March 15th, 2010
Open Wednesday to Sunday - 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Closed Monday, Tuesday & Statutory Holidays
Vehicles and white goods are not accepted at the landfill
 


Landfill Hours are 12 noon to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday; closed statuatory holidays

Residents and business owners need to eliminate potential homes and food sources for skunks and rats by:

  • filling or closing spaces underneath porches, stairs, sheds, etc
  • remove stacks of lumber, piles of branches, old buildings, etc
  • stack fire wood a minimum of six inches off the ground
  • keep grass and weeds cut, remove grass clipping piles
  • pet food should be inaccessible
  • garbage set out for collection should be in a container with a tight fittng lid
  • inspect all buildings and vehicles regularly for signes of pests
If a property owner is issued a cleanup order and the work is not completed by the owner, then the Town shall arange for the work to be done. An administration fee of $200.00 will be charged, as well as teh costs of the clean up.

NOISE BYLAW -CLICK HERE 

TRAFFIC BYLAW:
There is a $50.00 fine for the following violations:
 
Parking
  • Blocking an entrance to lane or driveway;                  
  • Parking within 5 meters of any street intersection or a fire hydrant;
  • Parking an unregistered vehicle on any street or avenue;
  • Parking in a ‘Handicapped Parking’ area;
  • Parking in a ‘No Parking’ area that has been designated by the Town;
  • Parallel parking in an area designated for angle parking – which is Centre Street from 1st Avenue to 5th Avenue and on Third Avenue from 2nd Street West to 2nd Street East;
  • Parallel parking is required in the balance of the Town. Parallel parking means the parking of a vehicle with both right wheels drawn up to the curb on the right-hand side of the street; curb means the lateral boundaries of a roadway, whether or not marked by curbing;
  • When unloading or loading goods that is the only reason to be parked in any lane and then for only 30 minutes;
  • Parking a vehicle with a manufacture’s rated capacity in excess of 5,500 kg or length in excess of 7.62 meters in the residential zoning districts.
 
U-Turns
  • Not permitted at intersection designated with a ‘No U-turn’ sign;
  • Not permitted between intersections or at the intersection of a street or avenuewith a lane or alley.
 
Left Turn between Intersections
The fine,if charged under the Town Bylaw, is $100.00 if caught making a left turn between intersections, except when entering or exiting a lane or alley, parking lot or driveway.
 
Stopping Prohibited in Specified Places
$50.00 fine if caught stopping within an intersection; on a sidewalk; on a crosswalk or any place where traffic signs prohibit stopping, such as at the public school.
 
NUSIANCE BYLAW
 
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer will be inspecting properties for the following contraventions:
  • Discarded appliances, they need to be properly disposed of;
  • Untidy/unsightly property, may have old furniture in the yard or garbage or junk, vegetation not being cut on a regular basis;
  • Vehicles not being driven are required to be stored in a structure, if not they will be considered ‘junk vehicles’ and be required to be removed from your property; 
  • Buildings that require maintenance;
  • Fences not being maintained in a safe and reasonable state of repair.


 ELM TREE PRUNING BAN

To reduce the risk of Dutch Elm Disease, pruning of elm trees is prohibited from April 1st. until August 31 throughout  Saskatchewan.  Fresh cuts from pruning attracts the beetles that can spread the disease and increase the chance of infection.


SUBMISSIONS TO COUNCIL

All submissions and requests to council, including delegations must be received by the Town of Shaunavon administrator by 12:00a.m. on the day prior to Council's regularly scheduled meeting.  Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30p.m in the council chambers of the town office.


  GARBAGE COLLECTION

For properties on the west side of 9th Street and 4th Street West, north of 7th  Avenue   
garbage collection is on the street from December 1 of each year and continues until April 30 the following year.
