Town of Shaunavon - Family Physician Opportunity
The Town of Shaunavon, with assistance from the Cypress Health Region, is seeking to replace a husband and wife doctor team who will be leaving our community in November, 2009. We require dynamic and committed family physicians, who are interested in building a successful medical practice in Southwest Saskatchewan. The Avon Medical Clinic is a fully equipped, well established clinic with excellent staff that would be willing to remain with the practice. The successful physicians will work with fellow physician to provide emergency room on-call coverage for the community hospital.
A comprehensive range of health services are provided in Shaunavon. The hospital has 17 acute-care beds with 24-hour emergency on-call services and full laboratory services. There is a 40 bed long term care facility attached to the hospital and a range of mental/community health services available.
The Town of Shaunavon is a busy community of approximately 2,000 people situated a half hour off of the TransCanada Highway. A wide array of activities are available in our various facilities, which include a golf course, skating and curling rink complex, outdoor swimming pool, ball diamonds, theatre, bowling alley, tennis court and gym. There is an active drama group and various community minded organizations that work to make our community a better place to live.
Located approximately 1 hour from Swift Current, 2 hours from Medicine Hat, 3 hours from Regina, 3.5 hours from Saskatoon, and 5 hours from Calgary, major urban centres are in close proximity. We are centrally located between Cypress Hills Provincial Park and the Grasslands National Park at ValMarie. A replica of “Scotty” the t.rex can be seen at the T.rex Centre in Eastend, only a 20 minute drive from Town.

The Town has prepared an incentive package including a relocation allowance, assistance with housing and transportation for the successful candidates. The Cypress Health Region will provide competitive relocation assistance to the successful permanent candidate.
Reimbursement is fee for service, billed through the Medical Services Branch, Ministry of Health.
