Town of Shaunavon

Local Government

Welcome to the Town of Shaunavon's Website!

Shaunavon is a rapidly growing community, located one hour southwest of Swift Current and just down the highway from Scottie and the TRex in Eastend.  We are proud to be the regional centre for this corner of the province – offering a comfortable lifestyle to our residents.

While Shaunavon has been experiencing huge growth due to the oil industry in the past three years, our mainstay industry is agriculture.     These two industries certainly complement each other, as many of the employees of the oil companies are also young farmers who are working hard to build and sustain their farming operations.    We view this as a great partnership.

As a municipality, it is interesting to observe the benefits of a growing region, while trying to satisfy the demands of rapid growth.   As mayor and council, we are continually challenged with new experiences, however, I believe that the strength of people around the council table are making good choices and are continually asking the question,  “Is this sustainable?”  We must continue to focus on the future!

Shaunavon offers a quality of life that is rare among towns today.  Crime is practically non-existent; and keeping our children safe continues to be the highest of priorities in terms of policing.    Our volunteer Fire Department is manned by a committed group of young men and women who are willing to put themselves “out there” in a moment’s notice.

Our downtown business sector offers a grand shopping experience and has a strong Chamber of Commerce leading the way.  We maintain that  we have the best shopping in the southwest and professional services that satisfy all our requirements and needs.

Shaunavon is proud to boast a busy hospital,  two medical clinics, a physiotherapist, dentist, massage therapist, chiropractor, optometrists, lawyers, professional accountants, three very enthusiastic schools, churches  and many other services.  A very active seniors organization and a busy Wellness & Leisure Board co-ordinate programs and activities for all ages.  We have a beautiful 9 hole grass green golf course with a brand new million dollar volunteer-built Country Clubhouse.   We are very proud of the many volunteers who toiled over this project.  What an accomplishment!

In July of 2011, we honored our hometown hero, Hayley Wickenheiser, with the grand opening of the state-of-the art Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre.  It has been a very successful season for the CPWC, having hosted two Western Hockey League Games, a Junior Hockey game and best of all, many local, regional and provincial hockey games.       The centre is home of the Shaunavon Badger hockey teams, Silver  Blades Figure Skating Club and a busy Curling Club.  It is the heart of our long Winter Season!

The sky scape of our small town is changing daily, with the near completion of the beautiful new Canalta Hotel,  a  Strip Mall,  and two new eating establishments – right at the entrance to our town.    We welcome these new businesses to our community and know that they will complement our strong existing business sector.

The ground-breaking of our new residential subdivision - so appropriately named “Bench View Subdivision” is nearing completion.   An amazing view of the “bench”, at sunset, is one that these new homeowners will enjoy nightly!

I am very proud to represent the community of Shaunavon and consider the people to be  Shaunavon's  greatest asset.

Please come visit soon – start at our Tourism Centre which is located in the Grand Coteau Museum, a building which houses an outstanding art gallery and our local library. Experience Shaunavon!!
