A group of former classmates and friends gathered together on the weekend of July 14 - 16 to celebrate their 35 th high school reunion. It was attended by approximately 64 people -- 37 of the group had attended school in Shaunavon during their childhood/adolescent years and many of them had graduated together from high school in 1965. The former students came from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and different places in Saskatchewan. One of their former teachers, Mrs. Helen Ganley, visited with former students and another, Mr. Albert Sullivan, sent greetings. Another teacher, Oliver Pruden, who passed away early this year, was represented by his wife, Vicki. This is the third reunion the Class of '65 has had since leaving high school. The first one was held in 1980 and the second one was in 1990.
The celebration began with a social evening at the Elk's Hall where former classmates visited each other and enjoyed renewing acquaintances and reminiscing about the past. The group enjoyed a steak dinner and dance at Pioneer Hall on Saturday night. Many people in the group gathered for breakfast at the local restaurant, J.B.'s, on Sunday morning and then attended a church service in the park. All in all, it is reported that a good time was had by all and everyone enjoyed getting back to their hometown. There is already talk of another reunion in 5 years - 2005 |
