The Wellness and Leisure Committee, in collaboration with its community partners provides and supports the development of a healthy vibrant community dedicated to promote activities and programs within its recreational and leisure services. The committee is committed to include all community members in its programming goals.

The Wellness and Leisure Committee has recently been established. The committee held its first meeting in September of 2010. Previously, there were three boards which undertook the recreational activities in Shaunavon; the Recreation Board, the Jubilee Arena Board and the Curling Club. During the re-establishment of the recreational department, the Town of Shaunavon reconstructed its Parks and Recreation Department, making parks and recreation two separate entities and ascertained The Wellness and Leisure Committee as the new board for recreation.

The Wellness and Leisure Committee is focused on providing the entire community with recreational and leisure services. The committees mandate focuses on the wellness of Shaunavon’s residents and supports a healthy and active environment. The committee promotes community members to make positive health choices and to participate in physical and recreational activities.

Currently, Shaunavon recreational area holds a swimming pool, which was first re-opened in 1985. The swimming pool offers more than an escape from the warm summer months; learn to swim, fitness and recreational swimming opportunities are offered to the surrounding community. There are three ball diamonds which support the local slow pitch and minor ball leagues. Located in this recreational area, one can find washrooms, a concession booth, horseshoe pits and a tennis court. In recent years a skate board park has been added to this area.

The Town of Shaunavon launched the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre in July 2011. The center holds an Olympic size hockey rink and curling rink, it is one of the biggest Center’s ever built in the South-West region of Saskatchewan. The Centre has been named in honor of Hayley Wickenheiser, who is said to be one of the greatest female hockey players of all time.

As an active community, the Wellness and Leisure Committee believes that all members have the right to a safe, healthy and active environment. The committee is working hard to ensure that this belief is present for each and every community member.
