As I sit at the computer, trying to imagine how I will get all the incredible feelings I have for the town I love, I thought I would try to say it in how a day in Shaunavon is for me, and I think you can relate...

A friendly hello to bring a smile to my face,

A smiling face to lighten my day.

My day is enhanced by a yard full of blossoms,

Excitement blooms as I stroll up main street.

On main street I stop in to the many shops,

I shop for the things I need, and the things I like.

I like where I shop because they are my friends,

Friends in our town who always help out.

Help neighbors and strangers settle right in,

Settle in with comfort and joy.

Joy of belonging, of growing and having fun,

We have rodeo and parades, and activities galore,

More things to do that I have room for!

And after the day is done I go to my home,

The one that is just right for me,

And I greet my neighbor with

Shaunavon is one of the most unique small communities that I have ever experienced.  You will never find a town of this size with as many opportunities as Shaunavon has to offer.  There is an endless amount of recreational, educational and professional endeavors that may be enjoyed locally.  From the unbelievable support of sports, to the ample supply of jobs, Shaunavon is a very desirable place to live.  We are now in the process of fund raising for a new rink complex and are also waiting for a pending bid on an ethanol plant.  The future of Shaunavon looks far from dismal now.  The scenery is spectacular, and we also have an amazing golf course.

As far as people go, I would challenge anyone to find a more tight knit community with folk as friendly and selfless.  Every year schools and businesses alike raise incredible amounts of money for Telemiracle.  There are many locally owned businesses with strong roots in the community, as well as Co-ops that help the economy.  People here genuinely care about our town and do their very best to improve it.

Citizens of Shaunavon enjoy a great sense of security in living here.  It is not uncommon to see children playing in the beautiful parks or going to the Frosty Treat without need of close parental supervision.  You do not have to dead bolt your doors every time you go to sleep.  It is a peaceful and serene place, yet it is exciting to live here at the same time.  It is definitely a pleasure to live here.

I Love Shaunavon because there is lots of stuff to do.  You can go to the hockey rink and play hockey.  You can play at the playground whenever you want.  You can go to the pool in the summer

I Love Shaunavon because it is a safe place.  There is no murdering and you always find your pet if you lost it.

I Love Shaunavon because there are friendly people.  The water is good.  The summer programs are fun.  There are good schools hers.  The size of Shaunavon is good because you can get to where you want to go in a hurry.  The Frosty Treat is good because there is ice cream there (my favourite is cookies and cream)  Radio Shack is here and not many towns get Radio Shack.  That's why I Love Shaunavon.....Why do you??

I Love Shaunavon because all my friends are here.  Shaunavon is so great because we go a lot of sports programs here.  A reason why Shaunavon is so great is because my grandparents live close to  here and my cousins.  I Love Shaunavon for our great water and restaurants.  I Love Shaunavon because we have great weather most of the time.  I think Shaunavon is great because we got a lot of good sports teams and are great to watch.  We've got all sports like hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer and more.  I think Shaunavon is terrific because we have a great pool with diving boards and lifeguards.  I love the outdoor rink.  I Love Shaunavon because we have a great movie theatre and we get lots of new movies pretty quickly.

Shaunavon is a great place to live.  Shaunavon has hard working employees.  Shaunavon is a loving, and caring town, they help everyone who needs help.  If you don't have friends when you move to Shaunavon, you'll have the most best friends here in Shaunavon.  If your house burns down, there are alot of really good people here that will lend you an extra room in their house so you can stay there until you are ready to move to a new home.  There are also lots of fun sports that I love here, and in summer usually someone puts on summer activities that I like, like golf, scuba diving, capture the flag, and all sorts of other fun stuff.   And another thing is when there is an emergency, the fire trucks and ambulance never miss a minute of the emergency.  And they are always on the case.  And that's all the reasons that I Love Shaunavon

I Love Shaunavon because of all the activities like swimming in the summer, and the indoor and outdoor rink in the winter.  Also there's lots of cool clubs in the summer time.  It has a Dance Company, that's really fun.  Also there's hockey for all ages, and plus there's even a girls team.

I Love Shaunavon because it's population is small.  So you know everyone.  There are few crimes and it's pretty safe.  Shaunavon is great also because we have a good hospital and medical help.

I like Shaunavon because it's also close to other cities and towns like Swift Current.  Plus you get to know other people.  Shaunavon also stays pretty clean and there's not a lot of pollution.  Shaunavon has some pretty good stores.  Some I like are Voila, Pharmasave, Gallery of Gold and Ken's Family Fashions.

I Love Shaunavon because, there's a few good parks, more than you'd expect.  I really enjoy the pool in the summers, it's cheap to get into and fun to go to.  I also like the dirt ramps in Shaunavon, they are fun to go to.  The best thing in Shaunavon was the G.A.T. because my friends and I would always go to it for pop and movies.  I like Shaunavon's stores too, like Radio Shack.  That is my favorite store because I got my computer and my sound card there, my brother also worked there. 

I Love Shaunavon because there aren't many people here, so there isn't much crime, so I don't have to worry about getting mugged or anything.  I also like the Frosty Treat as my second favorite place in town, only if it wasn't so far away I would go more offen, and if I got allowance

I Love Shaunavon because there is barley no crime and also it is not polluted.  One good thing is that its small, quiet plus you know everyone.  The people are friendly and the people get out and help the community.  There is lots of recreation and activities for the people.  Plus you don't get mugged so its safe.

I Love Shaunavon because in the summer you get to go to the skate park, swimming, bmxing on the dirt ramps.  Plus a lot of the stores are good like Ken's Family Fashions, Bargain Shop, Greeting and Gifts.  When you walk down the street it is clean and not full of garbage.  In summer you can use the football and baseball fields.  You can go to Badger games, and also go to high school volleyball, basketball games and you also can go to the fall fair Showarama.

I Love Shaunavon because it has lots of things you can do.  You can play basketball, hockey, curling, football, baseball and go swimming in the summertime.  Shaunavon has a Frosty Treat.  That is the best ice cream I've every tasted.  Shaunavon has a curling and skating rink.  It is called Jubilee Arena.  There is a lot of hockey and curling played there in the winter time.  Shaunavon has a senior hockey team.  They are called the Shaunavon Badgers.  I like Shaunavon because I know almost everyone that lives here.  My Grandma and Grandpa and my uncle and aunt and my cousins live here.  My other family don't live that far from Shaunavon so I can see them often.  If I want to play with a friend, I can walk to their house or if they live in the country, they aren't too far away.  Our cross the street neighbor has been helping us with the snow by using his snow blower.  That is another reason I like living in Shaunavon because almost everyone helps each other out.  I am proud to live in Shaunavon and it is in Canada.

I Love Shaunavon . .. let me count the ways

What comes to mind first is the people.  They are a friendly, generous and hard working bunch.  You wouldn't find any better ones anywhere.

The size of the town is what I enjoy.  You can walk or drive anywhere in town in a matter of minutes.  Big cities are ok to visit, but for everyday living, small towns have what it takes,  especially this one.

When it comes to healthcare...we have it, and don't have to travel to the next town to receive help for our aches and pains.

The stores we have are impressive for a small town.  If you can't find it here, you can order it in.  

The water in Shaunavon takes "the cake"  It's absolutely the best tasting in the country--good enough for a queen!  The trees and parks make this town look beautiful, anytime of the year.  

Want to eat out?  We can accommodate you very easily with the best food in the Southwest. Need some legal advice or see an accountant?  Are you craving a banana split, or in the mood for bowling?  Want to see the latest movie, or go for a swim on a hot summer day?  Got a tooth ache that needs attention, or do you need to see better?  Need a new outfit or would you rather save your hard earned dollars and shop second hand? Looking for a place to invest your money, or do you need a loan?  Looking for fresh flowers or something new to decorated that new painted room? I Love Shaunavon... there are so many reasons.  After living on a ranch and raising 5 children I decided to move to Shaunavon when I was left alone.  I like to help with community work.  There is no end of service clubs if you want to be involved.  They all welcome you with open arms.  There is so much sports.  There is something to suit anyone at any age.  We have several wonderful recreation facilities.

The Seniors Centre is extremely active with games going on every day.  Every Thursday evening we have Old Time Dances with the best volunteer musicians in attendance.  There are five churches, and several large halls to rent.  There is a super hospital with a large care centre attached.  Also we have The Villa and Evergreen homes which house about 50 people.  We have a machinery dealership and a car dealership,  both of these give excellent service.  We have 2 group homes for handicapped people.  We are blessed with three caring doctors, a dentist, an optometrist, a therapist, a lawyer and a drug store.  We have three lovely grocery stores, several restaurants, three motels and 2 hotels.  We have an excellent clothing store, 2 furniture stores, photo shop, computer store, a hardware store and the Bargain Shop.  There are several apartment blocks.  In summer we enjoy a 'frosty treat'.  The oil industry has done wonders for Shaunavon.

Housing prices here are reasonable.  We have an abundance of excellent water.  We are not on meters and I believe this helps to keep the properties beautiful.  We have 3 financial institutions.

It is so nice to walk down the street  and everyone says hello.  We feel safe in our homes with not much crime.  Our R.C.M.P. control that.

I Love Shaunavon... because I've lived here for over 40 years and raised my family here.  It's a nice clean healthy place and always had nice good drinking water, nice green lawns, trees and flowers.  We have a courtesy car for all the elderly to get around.  We have a beautiful Villa and a nice hospital and a lovely nursing home.  People are so friendly and help each other.  We have three Parks to entertain our kids, for grandchildren  a nice swimming pool for summer to keep our kids & visitors busy.   Also we have two trailer parks.  I can walk downtown and even walk to my neighbours at night for coffee and still feel safe.  So we have lots to be proud of and love.

This is why I Love Shaunavon....its like Let the Sunshine In.

I Love Shaunavon ... seems like a simple enough statement, but do we really think about what it really means to us? To me it means I love the place that is my home.  Shaunavon is home for my wife and I, my children, my children's grandparents and my friends.  Sure a home can be made anywhere that you are, right?  But is it a home that you can really enjoy, feel secure in and trust the people around you?  I can go for a walk with my family at night, go to the park with the kids or downtown without a worry.  Can you think of the last time that you actually felt uneasy or unsafe when walking past someone on our streets.?  Sure, crime can happen anywhere, but the people in Shaunavon look out for one another.  "Do you need a hand with that?" - "Can I help?" - We have all offered things like these.

I have heard "Your town is dying, you are losing businesses, if they don't close down, they burn down."  Sure our town has lost businesses, but there are not really gone.  They have been replaced, rebuilt and reopened.  Our town needs a rink and it will be built with the determination and spirit in this community.  Our economy is not slowing, but progressing towards a prosperous future.  Ethanol, feedlots, oil, agriculture, Hockey Day in Canada and the best water in the country, there is just no end to it.
