STARS Air Ambulance (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) is celebrating 10 years of operation in Saskatchewan! STARS launched its first Saskatchewan base in Regina on April 30, 2012, with a second Sask base launching in Saskatoon soon after.

Expanding this air ambulance service to operate in Saskatchewan was crucial to saving lives in ALL areas of the province, urban municipalities and rural municipalities alike. It is evident that rural populations benefit from this vital service as they have limited and distant access to emergency services. Urban municipalities utilize this service as well as their residents travel provincially, including to rural areas. “The Regina base has helped care for more than 4,200 critically ill and injured patients across the province since then.” (CTV News Regina, April 28 2022)

The Town of Shaunavon and the Southwest region recognizes how fortunate we are to have such a vital service in our region, because it doesn’t just save time, it saves lives. To further show support to this organization, on September 14, 2022 the Town of Shaunavon donated $3,428.00 to STARS. To date, the Town of Shaunavon has donated each year since 2014 for a total of $25,176, based on $2 per capita, to help STARS put the right tools in the hands of the best talent to save lives.

“STARS is an asset our community needs but never wants, we appreciate all the hard-working doctors, nurses, pilots and staff that makes STARS what it is. Shaunavon and the whole Southwest are big supporters of STARS, as evident through the South West STARS organization founded by Shaunavon residents Grant Greenslade, Dean Bahnuick, and Jordan Poisson. When we see STARS in the air, we always have mixed emotions as we are very concerned about our local residents and hate to see harm come to anyone, however we know they will be in good hands. We are also extremely grateful to Crescent Point Energy with their involvement in our community as well as their involvement with STARS; we couldn’t ask for a better community partner. Thank you STARS and Crescent Point Energy for everything you do!” – Shaunavon Mayor Kyle Bennett

A Community BBQ is being hosted by STARS and Crescent Point Energy in Shaunavon on Thursday October 13th to celebrate its 10-year anniversary of STARS operations in Saskatchewan. This free event will run from 3:30pm to 5:30pm at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre, with officials from STARS and Crescent Point Energy joining the event. We invite the region to join us to celebrate and support this valuable organization (and have a chance to see the STARS helicopter up close!).
