A contractor hired by the Town of Shaunavon is in the process of applying pesticides on the Town of Shaunavon parks & green spaces. Herbicides (weed killers) are pesticides designed to control undesirable plants. Fall is the best time to fight weeds and get ahead of weed control for the following spring. This is because in the fall, much like your lawn, weeds are absorbing as much moisture and energy as they can before winter comes, including absorbing the pesticide.

The Town of Shaunavon takes the health and well-being of citizens and green spaces seriously, so all herbicides and pesticides are carefully chosen and applied to be the least toxic to off-target plants and animals. Furthermore, all pesticides and herbicides are fully certified by both the federal and provincial governments.

Locations where the pesticides have been applied have been labelled using a sign. Please see the image below as an example.

For the public’s safety, if you see a sign in one of the parks, please refrain from using the park or green space until the sign has been removed (24 hours after application).

Thank you!
