The Town of Shaunavon has been awarded $75,000 through Saskatchewan’s Targeted Sector Support (TSS) Initiative to support a feasibility study for the Shaunavon & District Fire and Rescue (SDFR) Fire Hall Project.
A portion of the total funding will go toward a feasibility study and site evaluation, while the remaining funds are designated for implementation-related planning, including permits, blueprint development, Emergency Measures planning, asset registry updates, and a review of bylaws and intermunicipal agreements.
Shaunavon & District Fire and Rescue (SDFR) is a regional service that provides emergency response and fire protection to the Town of Shaunavon and the RMs of Arlington, Bone Creek, and Grassy Creek. SDFR is staffed by a dedicated team of trained volunteer firefighters. The current fire hall, while functional, has become outdated as service demands and equipment needs have evolved.
“This funding allows us to take a strategic and collaborative approach to planning for the future of fire and emergency services in our region,” said Edna Laturnus, Acting Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Shaunavon. “We are grateful for the support and proud to work alongside our municipal partners to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities.”
The TSS Initiative, administered by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA), supports capacity building and inter-community collaboration across the province. Shaunavon’s fire hall project was one of 19 municipal projects to receive funding in the latest round, totaling over $1 million in provincial investment.
