The Town of Shaunavon is excited to share a newly announced project that will elevate both our skyline and our community story.

Following the success of past festivals, the South West Mural Fest is setting its sights even higher this year, quite literally. With a vision to make this year’s project even bigger, event organizer Andrew Robertson approached the Town with the idea to transform Shaunavon’s water tower into a large-scale public art feature as part of this year's festival.

This initiative builds on the momentum of a growing mural collection that continues to bring colour, creativity, and character to our community. This year’s festival has already seen incredible interest, with over 600 artist applications from around the world: a testament to Shaunavon's growing reputation as a destination for art and culture.

The South West Mural Fest has brought its vision to life across Shaunavon, working with the Town and local partners to transform spaces throughout the community. Last year, murals were added at the Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre , Harvest Eatery, the back of The Plaza Theatre & Venue , Stardust Motel, Bennett Plaza, and a feature wall in the alley south of Jae’s Pharmacy.

The project even extended beyond walls, with Great Western Railway collaborating with the festival by donating a rail car, which was transformed into a moving piece of art in celebration of their 25th anniversary.

Together, these installations are shaping Shaunavon into a vibrant, open-air gallery, and now, one of our most recognizable landmarks will become part of that story.

“This project is a great example of how collaboration and creativity can shape a community. When passionate people come together to enhance our shared spaces, it brings new life to our town and creates something everyone can be proud of. It’s exciting to see Shaunavon continue to grow as a place people want to experience.” - Shaunavon Mayor Cal Vance

Beautification projects like this play an important role in Shaunavon’s continued growth. They enhance our public spaces, contribute to a strong sense of place, and help foster a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. This initiative also strengthens Shaunavon’s position as a destination, where art, culture, and community come together in meaningful and memorable ways, so that residents and visitors alike can all thrive.

South West Mural Fest has released sponsorship opportunities for those who want to be part of bringing this project to life, visit their website https://www.swmuralfest.com/ or reach out to SouthWestMuralFest@gmail.com to learn more.

We look forward to more of the festival's announcements and sharing more details as this exciting project comes to life.
