Welcome to the Town of Shaunavon!

The Town of Shaunavon is a vibrant and picturesque community nestled in the Southwest corner of Saskatchewan, one hour from The City of Swift Current to the east, just down Highway 13 (Red Coat Trail) from Scotty the T-Rex in Eastend and just a two-hour drive to Medicine Hat. We are proud to be a regional hub for this corner of the province – offering a comfortable and active lifestyle to our residents and multitude of amenities for our visitors.

Shaunavon was established as a village in 1913. On September 17, 1913, lots for the new town site were sold and within approximately 8 hours, 370 lots were sold to ambitious individuals who wished to establish their businesses and residency in this new community. By the next year, Shaunavon had grown from a village to a town, becoming the first community in Canada to do so in under one year. Shaunavon’s abundant water supply was the key resource that drew over 700 settlers in that one-year period, earning Shaunavon the nickname “Boomtown". Over the years the Town has continued to boom, and grow into the diverse and thriving community we call home today!

While Shaunavon has experienced huge growth over the years due to the oil industry, the mainstay industry is agriculture. Many other sectors including retail, food and beverage and tourism have also seen significant growth, positioning us a a strong an diverse economic centre in the Southwest.

The downtown business sector offers a unique shopping experience and has a strong Chamber of Commerce leading the way. We maintain that we have the best shopping in the southwest and professional services that satisfy all requirements and needs of residents. Over the past few years a number of new businesses have been established in Shaunavon including: a coffeehouse, new restaurants, liquor store, general store, home furnishings store, and a new gym & training facility just to name a few. The opportunity for growth in Shaunavon is exponential and the residents are very supportive of the local business community.

Shaunavon’s Hospital and Care Centre operates as a Collaborative Emergency Centre, meaning that healthcare providers are available to provide care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is a great asset to our community that we are very lucky to have! The community is home to three very enthusiastic schools, churches and many other services. A very active seniors’ organization and a busy Wellness and Leisure Committee co-ordinate programs and activities forall ages. The Rock Creek Golf & Country Club offers abeautiful 9-hole grass green golf course with a million-dollar volunteer-built country clubhouse located just West of the Town of Shaunavon off Highway 13.

Shaunavon’s residents enjoy top notch recreation and cultural facilities and activities all year round. This is a community where neighbours become friends and where friends unite to build a community in which we can all share. We are proud of our past and excited about the potential of our future. Come and experience Shaunavon - Where the West is Still Wild.
